Caspar to hold silent auction

Caspar News and Press Releases

Caspar to hold silent auction

"We started by calling it the "Let's-make-enough-money-to-paint-the-north-room Silent Auction," says Dalen Anderson, the administrator of the Caspar Community Center, "but in fact it's much more than that."

On Sunday, November 21 the auction will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at the Community Center to raise funds for completion of the refurbishing and restoration of the old schoolhouse that has served as a community center since April of 2002. Since that time a huge amount of work has been done on the historic redwood building, including construction of a new foundation, a new roof, and much work on the interior.

"Now it's time to finish the job," says Anderson. "It will cost $2500 to paint the north room, and we need to install decent incandescent lighting, put in proper window blinds, and complete many smaller projects."

At the Sunday event participants will enjoy an extensive array of hors d'oeuvres and refreshments while browsing for bargains. The Karl Schoen Trio will play, and bidding will take place on a huge assortment of goods and services. Items to be auctioned include furniture, antiques, a new radial-arm saw, symphony and opera tickets, wine, gift certificates for local restaurants, Chaco sandals, a telescope, books, mosaics, pottery, tools, and more. There will be a chance to bid on a Moline Organ that dates back to the 1880s, as well as jewelry by Carlie Abbott, and signed, limited edition prints by local artists Sunshine Taylor and Olaf Palm.

Since opening two and one half years ago the Caspar Community Center has become one of the most popular venues in the area. Anderson reports that there are classes held in the center four nights a week, and that weekend evenings are booked three months in advance. "Many local non-profits have been holding fund-raisers here," she explains. "We've had CD release parties, English country dances, swing dances, slide shows, and a few weddings. The North Coast obviously needs what the center provides."

For more information about the event, or to donate items for the auction, telephone Dalen Anderson at 964-4997.
